Restoration/Revoicing of Wicks Opus 1431
Menauhant, in East Falmouth, Massachusetts on Cape Cod, originated as a Methodist Camp Meeting community in the nineteenth century, giving way to permanent structures around the turn of the last century. Still a thriving summer community, Menauhant has two primary gathering places for the residences of its approximately one hundred homes: the Menauhant Yacht Club, and Grace Chapel.
The 1932 Wicks organ in Grace Chapel was a gift from summer residents Sarah and Garrett Shanklin in 1991. The organ has been under our care since 2010, and has undergone a series of phased improvements, including the construction of an entirely new wind system to improve wind stability and eliminate blower noise. The final phase addresses the pipework of the instrument. All pipes were removed to our shop, and underwent a complete restoration, including cleaning, de-denting, re-rounding, fitting with new tuning slides, and revoicing to obtain a bolder and more even tone. The pipework was reinstalled in Feburary, 2014. New service lighting was installed at this time to facilitate ease of tuning and maintenance.
